Nathan's Birthday Celebration

In case you missed it, our tiny baby Nathan is now four!

We decided to keep things simple (read: easy) for Nathan's birthday this year.  Both because we like it that way anyway, and also planning anything complicated with a baby due in mere days just seemed dumb.

So first we let Nathan choose what kind of cake he wanted and help bake it.  He wanted chocolate with blue icing and sprinkles and a green number four.  Oddly specific?  Not for Nathan.

Then we took him to his first movie in the theater!  We saw his beloved friend cars starring in Cars 2.
He definitely didn't eat all of that popcorn by himself. Sprout can vouch for that.
Honestly I think at least 90% of the plot was over his head (including, thankfully, the kind of violent parts), but he loved seeing so many cars and races and crashes and planes and boats on such a huge screen for several hours.  It was a lot for him to take in, but he's been talking about it ever since, so I think he liked it.

Then we spent the afternoon with some friends and family, swimming in the pool (my not-so-secret dream for Nathan's birthday ever since we bought this house) and eating pizza and cake.
Lots of friends and family who love our Nathan!

Annie-Bop would rather put the pool on her than herself in the pool!

Yeeeeah... Wyatt's gonna poop blue later. (As will we all.)
Really Anneliese?  Even in your hair?
It was a simple and fun afternoon to celebrate our big four-year old!  Happy birthday, Nathan!!

Yay! Happy birthday, Nathan!

That Bop kid is crazy.

No blue poop in our family! The icing even came off Bop's dress just by soaking it in water for a few minutes. I was pleasantly amazed!

And from now on, you can have an amazingly simply backyard pool party for your summer babies!

Happy Birthday, Nathan! Whew! At least you know Sprout and Nathan won't share a birthday... Simple parties are nice for little kids - takes the pressure off of EVERYONE. I remember when I worked at Gymboree and people had birthday parties there and the birthday child cried the. whole. time. The parents we stressed and OBVIOUSLY the child was stressed. Blue cake (with big green 4). Cars movie. Pool. Happy kid. WIN.
