We have had the Olympics broadcasting into our living room pretty much constantly all weekend. Oh yeah we're exercising vicariously through those athletes, you'd better believe it.
Nathan is having fun watching the events... go by skis!... look at all the snow!... go by skates!... he's goin' fast!... she's goin' downhill! and so on. His favorites seem to be the skiing and the speed-skating.
On Saturday afternoon he started running circles around the den, pumping his arm up and down. We couldn't quite figure out what he was doing, but then he said did you skate? and we realized that he was pretending to speed-skate through our living room. Which made us both burst out laughing because it's the most hilarious thing that has happened in our house in a long time:

This might be the most athletic thing he ever does with his (lack of) motor skills.

The Dutch are particularly crazy for speed skating, in case you hadn't noticed. (Don't believe me? Read this and watch this or just turn on any speed skating event and watch for the orange and the marching bands.) So this must be Nathan's way of rediscovering his heritage. I'm sure his Opa and his Tante Digna and his Oom Maarten are very proud right now. :)

Made me laugh out loud!!! :) NOW I know why Michelle Duggar said she always wanted to have at least one toddler around the house, even if it was a grandchild or great-grandchild! They're SO cute.
You GO with your cool speed skating self, Nathan!
my sister and i used to speed skate in our kitchen. we'd wear socks and put one arm behind our backs, lean forward, and swing the other arm back and forth - just like bonnie blair :)
That is precious!!!
I love it!! Now we need to get his impression of CURLING!
I like how his stock phrase is "go by [means of transport]"; in what linguistically normal household does a toddler say that? The kind with a mommy who had to drill "ich fahre mit..." and learn its stilted English version!
nope, no stilted english here. He says "go by..." because of the book Go Dog, Go! which (like many kids) was one of his early favorites. There are pages in that book that say "go by skates" and "go by skis" specifically.
I think that's pretty typical of American toddlers, actually. He's not the only kid I've heard saying it. :)
